Valerie L. Newell

Ms. Newell is the
Chairman of RiverPoint Capital Management and Director of the Private Client
and High Net Worth Group. As a veteran of the investment management and
financial services industry for over 30 years, Valerie offers extensive
financial expertise and experience.
Valerie, as a Senior Portfolio Manager, specializes in investment management,
financial planning and retirement planning for high net worth individuals,
multi-generational families, and retirees. She has significant experience in
managing portfolios in a tax effective manner including determining
appropriate strategies for highly concentrated positions in low basis stocks
such as Procter & Gamble and General Electric . She is a member of the
Estate Planning Council, the American Institute of CPA’s Financial Planning
Section and the Ohio Society of CPA’s.
Prior to joining RiverPoint in 2002, Valerie was a Managing Director of
Scudder, Stevens & Clark Private Investment Counsel and Director of the
Cincinnati Office. Scudder, prior to its purchase by Deutsche Bank, was a
long-standing independent investment advisor with national and international
operations. Valerie spent 12 years at Scudder, where she specialized in the
management of investment assets for wealthy individuals and their families
and was a member of the National Management Team. Previously, Valerie was a
Vice President and Portfolio Manager at Haberer Registered Investment
Advisor. Valerie started her career as a CPA in the public accounting firm of
Arthur Andersen, where she specialized in mergers and acquisitions in the
Banking and Finance Industry.
Ms. Newell is past Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Cincinnati Art
Museum and Past Chair and Emeritus Trustee of the Museum Center at Union
Terminal. She is also a Trustee of the Cincinnati Parks Foundation, Summit
Country Day Foundation, Beech Acres Foundation, and Co-Chair of the
Investment Committee of the University of Cincinnati Foundation where she
also serves as a Trustee. She completed an 11-year gubernatorial appointment
to the Board of Trustees of Bowling Green State University retiring as Chair
of the Board in 2004. She was appointed by President Bush to the National Women’s
CEO Advisory Board and in 2008 received a prestigious “We Lead”
award from the Cincinnati Chamber of Commerce for her business achievements.
Valerie received a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree graduating
Magna Cum Laude from Bowling Green State University where she was a two time
All American swimmer.
